Meet Kiara Ferguson and the Association of Pediatric Vision

Tell us about your organization.

The mission of the Association for Pediatric Vision (APV) is to improve vision outcomes for children five and under, by strengthening existing vision screening programs and serving as an expert resource for pediatric vision health.

How long have you been with the Association for Pediatric Vision?

I’ve been with APV for 6 months now.

What do you love most about your organization?

The thing I love most about my organization is that every day I get to come to work and make a difference. Knowing that the work I do could positively impact a child’s life makes the job so rewarding.

What’s one thing – either industry/work-related or not – you learned in the past month?

This past month I had the chance to sit with Dr. Glen Steele, a pioneer of the InfantSEE program. We had the chance to talk about the program and all of the amazing work and lives that have been touched.

What’s one skill you’d like to develop or sharpen this coming year?

One skill I would like to develop this coming year is vision screening. I do so much work in the field, yet I do not know how to screen. Therefore, I am making it my mission in 2023 to learn.

When you’re not working, how do you enjoy spending your time?

When I am not working, I enjoy spending my time with friends and family.

What was the last book your read or movie you watched?

The last movie I watched was Luckiest Girl Alive starring Mila Kunis.

Where is your favorite destination you’ve visited, and why?

My favorite destination I have visited is Jamaica. I loved the beaches, food, and atmosphere. I can’t wait to go back!

Where on earth are you hoping to travel next?

I would love to visit Europe next.

What is something unique about you (fun fact) that most people are not aware of?

A fun fact about me is that I can sing. But I am very shy so don’t ask. Lol!
